In a Nutshell: This article looks at the essential elements of a consultation using the SIMPLE acronym (stop smoking, inhalers, monitoring, pharmacology, lifestyle and education) approach.  Developed by a consultant pharmacist and East Midlands NHS Improvement Network, it covers the important areas essential to effective asthma consultations, enabling the practitioner to structure their skills to help people with asthma. This approach is fundamental to improving the symptoms of asthma, allowing the person to gain and maintain  control of their condition.
